Class Objectives: * Understand debits and credits and know how each account is affected. * Identify the four basic financial statements. *Explain how the accounting equation (A=L+E) helps in analyzing the financial statements. *Understand the difference between cash flow and accrual-basis income.
Beginning Accounting will be designed for both upper-level high school and college students. The same principals are taught at both levels but the intensity of the course changes between the different learning levels. Once the design of the course is created, I will be able to change the intensity of the course through scheduling based on the learning level. A high school student should expect to spend 6 hours a week on this course. A college student should expect to spend 12 hours a week on this course.
This class will be taught online and students should have the motivation to be a good learner. Learning accounting or "the language of business" can only be done through practice. The student will be able to learn at a self-paced schedule but will have scheduled homework, quiz, and test dates to force them to stay on top of their learning.
I have taught this class before in a face-to-face setting and am excited to create an online course.
